How many years have you been practicing?
I have been practicing since May 2011.
I practiced hatha yoga for 1st four years in which I sincerely followed Sivananda style of hatha yoga.
I began practicing ashtanga yoga from May 2015 until present.
What does your practice include?
My practice from morning begins saucha which is translated as cleanliness.
I do my prayers after bath every morning and evening in my temple by lightening a diya, incense and some flower offerings followed by mantras.
We don't miss this.
My daily self-practice includes the primary ashtanga sequence.
I emphasize on a daily basis on alignment techniques of an asana which I pick up randomly. Observing the core and root of an asana, e.g. extended triangle, sitting forward bend, holding downward facing dog, breathing 10 breaths in upward facing, etc.
I work consistently to understand to find a comfortable state of breath in which I could hold a posture for a longer period of time, at least 3-5 mins.
Teaching students in yoga training I consider them as one of my practices which gives me an enormous amount of satisfaction and makes my learning deeper through them.
My daily practice includes a meditation of 20 to 30mins before bed.
Why do you practice yoga or meditation?
I would say yoga chose me as I had suffered lower back pain from the early age of 18 through 25. Through yoga, I have completely cured my back pain. Since then it has been a great journey for me to explore hatha yoga and later ashtanga yoga practice.
Through the practice of yoga, I connect with myself very well. Yoga constantly makes me aware of each moment better than when not practicing. As practices goes on, Something tells me to work each day within.
Meditative practices in yoga give me infinite possibilities for anything and a great sense of contentment.
In no other work in this world, have I ever felt like this.
What benefits have you received from your practice?
I completely cured my lumber back pain.
It brought clarity within me about my life goal which is to practice and share the knowledge of yoga.
Enhanced skills of body awareness in various asana.
Understanding the root cause of physical and mental problems can be relieved and later cured through a consistent and disciplined yoga practice such as pranayama, asana, yoga nidra, and dhyana.
Asana practice helps me stay longer in my dhyana (meditation) practice.
What skills do you have (anatomy, massage, etc?)
I have learned anatomy, Ayurveda, and its various therapies to deepen my own understanding of yoga.
What makes your class different from "exercise" classes?
I believe yoga is completely different from what we understand as just an exercise.
A regular workout or exercise may drain you, but yogic exercises are designed by yoga masters in such a way that they take you to your energy body that the pranamaya kosha activates your pranic energy to the greatest level by majorly working on each muscle using a particular breath and gaze.
What makes you passionate about yoga?
Passion comes from a certain level of intensity (which is a fire) within one. The intensity to know my true self has always been my longing.
What makes you happy?
When a practitioner listens to his/her teacher.
What's the best advice you could give to a seeker?
To put unshakable belief in your learning with teacher, which is hardly seen in these days.
